Terrence Henderson II '19 is a dynamic player on the Calvert Hall basketball team and is a force to be reckoned with on the court. He has played four years on the team, three of which have been on varsity. Henderson plays point guard, which is one of the most important positions on a team. As a point guard, he acts like a coach on the court because he must have to make quick and decisive decisions during crucial moments of a game. Unfortunately, in January of 2018, Henderson suffered a back injury while going for a rebound and could not play for the rest of the season. The varsity team lost a key player, and in his absence, the remaining games of the season did not go as well. Every player feels depressed after a bad injury, and even Henderson was no exception. There are famous lyrics that say, “You only need the light when it’s burning low,” and that light for Henderson was his mother. After his injury, his mother told him to “fight through pain” and guided him throughout his recovery time. Because of the motivation and support from his mother, Henderson became determined to do his best to return to basketball. For many days after school, he went to the training room to do stretches and exercises. Those helped him to regain his muscle flexibility and his feel for playing basketball. Henderson's teammates also inspired him by showing great support and encouragement as he was recovering, which helped him pull through. This will be Henderson's last Calvert Hall basketball season just like many of his senior teammates, but this is also a new beginning for him as he takes the court for the first time since recovering from his devastating injury. So far, having Henderson back has helped lead the team to recent victories over Mt. Carmel and John Carroll. When asked about how he would describe his relationship with his team, Henderson said “no matter how bad it is, we will never leave each other.” The team is just like a big family that gathers every member’s heart together. The combined spirit of Henderson's team and all of the study body's support and encouragement will lead to glorious achievements in the season as it unfolds.
