#One4Hall: Gianni Vito

Noah Daly '20
Walking around the halls, we pass by up to 1,200 students every day. All these faces come and go, but you can be guaranteed to know one person in particular: Gianni Vito '20. His cheerful attitude and charismatic hand gestures are impossible to miss. Over the last three years, I’ve been able to share great experiences, like the Miami Immersion Trip, with him and together he and I joined Peer Ministry. In everything that I’ve be able to do with him, one thing stays the same: Gianni is the center of attention and the inspiration for countless jokes and laughs.

Going to Miami with him, I was able to meet a new Gianni. During our nightly prayer and reflection, I came to know the more serious and caring side of him. He is without a doubt always there for anyone at all to lend a hand to, to offer advice, and just to talk to. Gianni has been a great friend to me and so many others at The Hall, and I’ve gotten to know him very well in my time here. For those that might not know him however, I sat down and interviewed him with this year’s school theme in mind and, of course, he had a lot to say.

Q: "One for Hall" loosely means being a part of a bigger picture here at school. What do you do here that makes you "One for Hall"?

A: Here at The Hall I like to be involved in a few different things. I support the various sports teams, especially the volleyball team. I am also involved in student council, which takes up quite a bit of my time because we plan a lot of different events that make up the Calvert Hall Experience. Also, I’m involved in Peer Ministry, and I found the program to be one of my second homes here because the things we do are able to change students’ lives. We get to inspire people and see Calvert Hall in a new and different way. Peer Ministry and Student Council have helped me to better realize this theme, One for Hall, because we work together in all these programs and sports teams to make sure that everyone is having a great time and that we are able to leave a great impact on the student body.

Q: What are you looking forward to doing this year in those groups?

A: In the coming year, as I am now a junior, more than halfway through high school, I look forward to leaving a lasting impact that students will remember and take on to the next generation for students that will set a higher standard. I'd like to go to Haiti this upcoming spring to learn the culture of somewhere outside the United States. I look forward to planning both junior ring ceremony and dance as well as junior prom. The reason I look forward to these events is because they are things that students should look forward to and be excited about.

Q: What can students expect from the Student Council this year?

A: The Beginning for freshmen just finished the other week, and the Masquerade Ball is our newly designed dance for freshman and sophomore classes where we’re looking to try something new. We’re looking to have some change from routine. The junior class I already told you about, and for the senior class we recently had the senior crab feast that Nick Bush worked very hard on.

Q: What advice can you give to the freshmen as to how they too can step up and be "One for Hall"?

A: Advice I would give to the freshmen is don’t be scared to try new things. I recognize that not everything is for everyone, but I’ve found that my interests aren’t entirely what I expected them to be. I found this out through pushing myself out of my comfort zone and I feel that freshmen can definitely benefit from this as well.
