2019 Red C Challenge Kicks Off

Justin Motsay
The annual Red C Challenge is underway!  Do you have the entrepreneurial spirit and want to turn your ideas into cash? Do you already have your own business or have a desire to start your own company?  If so, the Red C Challenge is for you.
The Red C Challenge is made up of Calvert Hall students that form their own groups of 2-4 students from any grade level.  After attending three separate “strategy sessions” to help students with the process, students find a tangible business problem, form an idea as to how to solve it, validate it and turn it into a formal business plan. A lot of resources can be provided.

Each group presents that formal business plan to a judging panel which scores using a rubric system.  The panel is comprised of Calvert Hall alumni judges and friends based on their business experiences.  The judges announce the winners and significant cash prizes will be awarded to the top three winning groups at a catered reception in April.

According Mr. Geoff Foltyn ’00, the Red C Challenge Vice Chairman, “This generation is full of problem solvers and thinkers and any student can be successful in the Challenge. Since the inaugural challenge in 2013, many students have become really successful and have kept in touch with the connections they have made through this annual challenge.”

The best part of the Red C Challenge that adds even more value to the Calvert Hall experience is this real-world scenario with a chance to learn outside the classroom. Students have the ability to use their creative ideas and have their ideas be heard.  They can decide which direction to move in with their idea and are given the autonomy of getting involved in something of interest to them.
