Farewell, Flacco: Super Bowl MVP Traded to Broncos
Justin Gardner
As every Baltimore fan already knows, Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl 2012 MVP, has been traded to the Denver Broncos.
Flacco has been with the Ravens for 11 years, starting with his draft in 2008 until his recent trade in 2019. Flacco is one of two Baltimore Super Bowl MVPs, and his legacy will never leave.
With the 18th pick in the 1st round of the 2008 NFL draft, the Baltimore Ravens selected Flacco, a quarterback out of the University of Delaware. Flacco wasn’t supposed to start in his first game, but due to injuries and sickness of the other QBs, he started in the season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals and won the game 17-0. This was the start to the Flacco era. Flacco led the Ravens to appear in three AFC Championship Games and a Super Bowl in 2012.
Many loved Flacco for all that he brought to the team. He was best known for his strong arm being able to throw the ball deep accurately. Without his strong arm the Ravens would not have made the Super Bowl. He performed one of the most amazing miracles in NFL history against the Denver Broncos: a 70-yard bomb caught by Jacoby Jones to send the game into overtime, which the Ravens later pulled off. Flacco has been a franchise player for most of his career.
In the 2018 season, Flacco started for the first 9 regular season games. When he suffered an injury, the Ravens played rookie Lamar Jackson. Jackson went on to finish the regular season with a 6-1 record. This was the end to Flacco’s time in Baltimore. Flacco was traded to the Denver Broncos for a fourth-round pick in the upcoming draft. Flacco will never be forgotten in Baltimore, and some fans even wish he had never left.
