The Varsity Volleyball Cards are off to a great start after winning their first five games. The cardinals beat Mount Saint Joe in their first game 3-1 and have not lost a set since. I asked Jacob Cole ‘20, a member of the team, how he thinks the remainder of the season will turn out and he answered, “I think we have a solid team this year and we have the potential to go very far but we will need to work hard in practice every day.” The “Volley Cards” have already defeated Archbishop Curley, Mount Saint Joe, Boy’s Latin, Archbishop Spalding, and Saint Paul’s. The Hall is lead by senior captains Scott McShain ‘19, the starting libero, and Ryan Vermeulen ‘19, the starting outside hitter. When asked how he thought the first few games went Jack Elliot ‘20 said, “As a team we have a lot of potential and the season is looking very promising, but we still have a lot to improve on.” The team is made up of fourteen players; four seniors and ten juniors. Pat Lavelle ‘20, the starting setter, has been playing since he was a freshman. This will be his second year on varsity and when asked what some of the strengths and weaknesses of the team are he said: “I think we are very strong all around in our starting lineup but we could use some more depth off the bench. Also, we sometimes struggle to stay positive throughout our matches.” I talked to Gianni Vito ‘20, one of the managers, to see what he thought of the team so far. The Junior Class President talked about the Varsity team saying, “I have come out to watch a few of the team’s games. I can really see a unity amongst all the players and I believe that they will have a very successful season. I plan on coming to more games this season and I hope to see them do well together.”
