Mr. Phillip Bressler
  1. I went to Baruch College in New York City.
  2. I grew up in Bayside, Queens.
  3. I wanted to become a teacher because I think it is a way to make the world a better place. Trying to pay back people who taught and mentored me.
  4. My older son went to Calvert Hall and had a great experience. I also wanted to get away from the big public school system.
  5. My favorite subject is history.
  6. My favorite sports team is the Orioles. It was a tough season, but me and my sons followed them to the bitter end.
  7. I like to golf and read for fun, even though my golf game sometimes makes me miserable.
  8. Truly excited to work with such outstanding young men and a great faculty who has gone out of their way to make me feel comfortable at Calvert Hall.
Mr. Tyler Twilley
  1. I went to Cornell University, and I majored in Industrial and Labor relations, which essentially is a study of the workplace through applied social sciences.
  2. I grew up in a small town in rural Delaware, where there were more chickens than people.
  3. I got involved in admissions as a college student, and then worked at three different institutions. I started at Cornell, then worked at Johns Hopkins for 3 years, and then Amherst College, which is a small liberal arts college in Massachusetts. I loved the work. I was looking for a chance to work more with individual students, so that's what got me involved in admissions.
  4. When I came to interview here I think it was just meeting with the students, the sense of community present; having students from such a wide range of zip codes, different backgrounds, interests, and experiences uniting around a sense of shared community and brotherhood was something amazing to see. I think that the magazine drive is a great example of that. Also, the effect that the brotherhood has in terms of alumni, which is how I heard about this job in the first place.
  5. I was definitely more of a humanities guy. I was terrible at science; my best subject was probably math, however. I preferred classes were there was the potential to not have wrong answers.
  6. Oh, the Ravens, easy. The Orioles are my first love, but that one is a marriage that takes a lot of work. The Ravens are a little bit easier to love, this year especially.
  7. I spend a lot of time with my dog, going on hikes and long walks. I like to spend a lot of time with family. On top of that, I am also in a bocce league; however, I’m probably the worst bocce player in the city of Baltimore right now. My goal is to become at least the second worst by the end of the fall.
  8. I'm just excited to see this college process play out for guys. I'm getting a chance to see them in their senior year, but really it's a culmination of what has been four years of really hard work. Seeing that play out, and all of the different offers of admission and scholarship opportunities as well as getting to see the successes that students enjoy will be particularly rewarding.
Ms. Lauren Hardesty
  1. I attended Arcadia University, and my major was in Spanish and minor in communications. Initially after college, I began translating on the pediatric floor in a local hospital. I realized that my days seemed much longer than they should, and therefore that job was not meant for me. I took a long-term sub position at a nearby high school and loved the challenge. I decided to pursue a permanent position and returned to school for coursework in education.
  2. I was born and raised near Annapolis, Maryland.
  3. After having experienced just about anything and everything you could imagine as a long-term sub in a pretty tough public school, I decided that I really did enjoy the classroom, even on the toughest days, and I found teaching very rewarding.
  4. I spent my last 7 years at the Institute of Notre Dame (IND) in the city, and while I absolutely love that place, I was looking for a place where I could grow more. I also have two boys of my own, and I hope one day that they can attend here.
  5. I love teaching a foreign language because I really enjoy creating fun engaging activities where learning takes place and you don’t even realize you are learning because you are having so much fun! I did teach physical education/health for a short time, and I really enjoyed it! I have a love for physical fitness, so I had a blast sharing my love with my students!
  6. Hands down the Washington Redskins. It’s like the O’s: they are terrible, but you still love them.
  7. For fun I spend time with my family. My husband and I are commercial crabbers, so we spend a lot of time on the water. I also enjoy teaching spin and HIIT classes at my local gym. Exercise is a passion of mine!
  8. I am excited to learn about all the traditions and crazy things that make Calvert Hall such a memorable place. This school is so rich in history and tradition, and I look forward to experiencing it all!
Mr. George Wilkerson
  1. Bachelor’s from West Chester University in Music Education (Instrumental-Percussion), Master’s from Morgan State University in Voice Performance, and I am working on my doctorate from Shenandoah Conservatory.
  2. Wilmington, DE.
  3. I come from a musical family, primarily jazz musicians, and I have always enjoyed figuring out how to play different instruments. But I was truly inspired by my new band director in 12th grade. He gave me leadership opportunities and encouraged me to audition for All-State ensembles, and I got into All-State Band and All-State Orchestra. His dedication to his students and love for teaching made me want to learn how to share my talents and inspire music in others.
  4. I taught here for seven years as the Director of Vocal Music before. When the Assistant Director of Instrumental Music position became available, it not only gave me the chance to return to teaching band and percussion (I taught both band and chorus at my other schools), it allowed me to return to an excellent school at which I had come to love teaching.
  5. I really enjoy teaching beginner and intermediate players. I enjoy seeing the growth.
  6. EAGLES and Florida State University Football.
  7. I play/sing music. It is neat teaching something that is also your favorite thing to do.
  8. The Competitive Marching Band’s competitions and the Music Department’s Disney Trip.
